Admitted again?

So, today I got admitted . Again. Hahaha, me and hospital had a special bonding I guess.

Dr. Loga, a Head and Neck surgeon said,

"Doctor is the worst patient."

Yeah, I agree with that. Hmm.

Do you ever heard about Aural Polyp? Its also known as ear polyp. What is polyp? Sound like alien word for you right? Hahaha.

This is what a normal ear look like. Normal !

Aural polyp is an abnormal growth of skin and soft tissue extending from the ear canal. An aural polyp is a growth in the outside (external) ear canal. It may be attached to the eardrum (tympanic membrane), or it may grow from the middle ear space. Polyps are fleshy, swollen lumps, sometimes containing bloody pus. Typically, an ear polyp arises from either the ear canal or the tympanic membrane, better known as the eardrum. Seldom are such polyps deemed to be cancerous growths, but rather are benign cysts or the result of aggressive bone infections. Although normally not cancerous, a polyp in the ear can be considered malignant when referencing polyps arising from a bone infection, due to their aggressive speed of growth and hazardous nature.

In regard to cause, an ear polyp can result from several possible scenarios. Acute otitis externa, or severe swimmer's ear can result in the formation of a polyp. When water remains in the ear canal, such as with regular swimming, the moist environment serves as a breeding ground for both bacterial and fungal infection. If left untreated, such an infection can result in the formation of a polyp between the eardrum and the outer ear.

Aural polyps may be caused by:

Cholesteatoma
Foreign object
Inflammation
Tumor

Bloody drainage from the ear is the most common symptom. Hearing loss can also occur.

Exam and Test needed?

An aural polyp is diagnosed through an exam of the ear canal and middle ear using an otoscope or microscope.

What are the treatment?

Treatment depends on the underlying cause. Your doctor may first recommend:

Avoiding water in the ear
Steroid medications
Antibiotic ear drops

If a cholesteatoma is the underlying problem or the condition fails to clear, then surgery may be needed.

Jangan risau, korang belum nak mati lagi. Dengar je doktor kata kena undergo minor surgery, terus buntang mata, berpeluh terus dahi. Rilek dulu, hahaha. InshaAllah tak ada apa berlaku, just removal of that polyp je. Chill !

First thing aku visit hospital untuk check telinga kanan aku yang mula rasa sakit and ada bunyi 'pop-pop' sound. Turn out telinga kanan aku okay, just need to use antibiotic ear-drop.

Tapi telinga kiri aku, look like macam ada whitish waxes near the ear drum. So, doctor asked me to go home and use the ear drop he gave.

The next week I came to see the doctor again (I already had appointment with him), and now he said got polyp in my middle ear, near to the tympanic membrane (ear drum).

Tapi dalam bahasa melayu, bunyinya agak scary.

"Ada sedikit ketumbuhan dalam telinga ni nampaknya."

Dengar word 'ketumbuhan' tu pun dah buat hati aku kecut. Haha. So, doktor explain about how to remove that polyp. Haha, believe me.. I was speechless. Hahaha, he said he need to make me sleep in order to remove it and avoid pain. Bleeding will be occur and he will put (I don't remember what the acid's name he mention) acid to stop the bleeding. My mom was acting normal, while I had my lip shut for few minutes. Hahaha.
