'Being medical student is not that hard. When you assign yourself to be in the medicine field, you should be prepared for the hardwork. You are dealing with life. You cannot enjoy like your other friends in engineering or business. They will not handling life. You are.' - Dr. Suresh.

Now I'm preparing for the Nucleic Acid Metabolism Quiz.
Okay, so Dr. Suriya said that there'll be 5 MCQ ( with negative marking of course ) and 2 SEQ. One of it obviously the biomedical important of nucleotides.

What are the biomedical importance of nucleotide ? 5 Marks.

1. Nucleotide are the building block of nucleic acid DNA and RNA.
2. They serve as donor of phosphoryl group (eg. ATP or GTP) for sugar and in the synthesis of lipid.
3. ATP,Adenine nucleotide, is a universal currency of energy. GTP powers many micromolecules movement and activate the G-Protein.
4. Adenine nucleotides are the components of coenzyme NAD+, NADP+, CoA, FAD and S-adenosylmethionine.
5. Regulatory nucleotides include the second messenger, cAMP and cGMP, oxidative phosphorylation is controlled by ADP, while the allocate roc regulation of enzyme is controlled by ATP, AMP abd CTP.
6. An understanding of nucleotide metabolism provides insight of disease and their therapy.
7. Nucleotide analogs are valuable drugs in the treatment of cancer, viral infection, autoimmune disease and genetic disorder. Allopurinol is used in treatment of gout and hyperdrive ia. Azathioprine is used in organ transplantation to suppress immunologic rejection.
8. The mutagenic effect of UV Light result from its absorption by nucleotides in DNA with accompanying chemical changes.

Sambil aku type bnda ni dlm hp, sambil tu aku ingt. Hahaha. My ways of learning I guess.

Briefly describe the formation of  Uric Acid. 5 Marks.

Amino group is removed from AMP to produce IMP or from adenosine to inosine by Adenine Deaminase.
IMP and GMP will be converted to Inosine and Guanosine respectively by action of 5' nucleotidase.
Inosine and Guanosine converted into hypoxia thine and guanine respectively by purine nucleoside phosphorylase.
Guanine will be deaminated to form Xanthine, while Hypoxanthine will be oxidase into Xanthine by Xanthine oxidase.
Xanthine will be further oxidase to form Uric  Acid by Xanthine Oxidase.

I really hope these 2 question come out in the quiz. Hahaha.
